Bishwanabi’s announcement on the honor and dignity of the elders-! [Digital equality is accessible to all ages ’]

Mohammad OLID Siddiqui Talukder: A person who protects the honor and dignity of an elderly person will be safe from all fears and dangers on the Day of Resurrection. This is proved by the guidance of the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in the hadeeth. What has Islam declared the dignity and honor of the elderly?

Long-lived elders are also better in terms of honor. They deserve more good times. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘Shall I not inform you of the best of you? They said, ‘Yes, O Messenger of Allah.’ He said, “The best of you is the one who lives a long life and does good deeds.” (Musnad Ahmad)

Today is International Veterans Day. In 1990, the United Nations decided to observe the International Day of the Elderly on October 1 every year. The day has been observed since 1991 to create global awareness to protect the dignity and rights of the elderly. This day is being celebrated in Bangladesh like other countries of the world through various programs. The slogan for the day is ‘Digital Equality Available to All Ages’.

The dignity and respect of the elders in the proclamation of the Prophet

Islam has given due dignity and rights to the elders. Elders are not a burden to family, society and the state; Rather, it is one of the unique sources of inspiration and liberation for success in this world and the hereafter. Bishwanabi himself has urged to be aware of the multiple descriptions of the hadith in order to protect the honor and dignity of the elders and to ensure their rights. He also announced many rewards, benefits and rewards. That’s why he said-
‘Surely honoring a white-haired Muslim is tantamount to honoring Allah.’ (Abu Dawood)
“Whoever protects the honor and dignity of an elderly person, Allah Almighty will protect him on the Day of Resurrection from all fears and anxieties.”

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘You have goodness and blessings with the elders.’ (Ibn Hibban, Hakim to Mustadra)

No matter who the elder is, he should always be looked upon with respect. Necessary care, food, care, clothing, accommodation; Everything has to be standard. Only then will the satisfaction of Allah be found in this world and in the hereafter. They have appeared in several narrations of Hadith-

1. Things to do and prayers for elderly parents

How to deal with aging parents; In the Qur’an, Allah Himself has given guidance about it in this way:
‘And your Lord has commanded that you worship none but Him (Allah) and that you do good to your parents. If one or both of them have reached old age with you, do not say the word ‘oops’ to them and do not threaten them. And talk to them gently. And spread out the wings of humility towards them and say (pray for them) –

‘O my Lord, have mercy on them as they had me when I was a child.’ (Surah Bani Isra’il: verses 23-24)

2. Greetings to the elders

Greetings to the elderly. Pray for peace for them. Bishwanabi himself has asked to give priority to Salam. It has been narrated in the hadith-
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, ‘The younger ones greet the older ones, the moving ones greet the seated ones, and the lesser greet the more.’ (Bukhari)

3. Relaxation in the worship of the elders

There is relaxation for the elders in performing the prayers. If they are unable to perform the prayers standing, then there is a convenient opportunity for the elders to worship. It has been narrated in the hadith-
Hazrat Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was suffering from hemorrhoids. In this situation I asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about praying. He said, “Stand up and pray.” If you are disabled, sit down. If you are unable to do that, then lie down. ‘(Bukhari)

4. Special opportunity for the elders of worship

Even the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) instructed to shorten the prayers in honor of the elders. It has been narrated in the hadith-
Hazrat Abu Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man came and said, O Messenger of Allah, by Allah! I am absent from Fajr prayers due to such and such. He makes the prayers very long. Abu Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I have never seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) get so angry when he went to give advice. Then he said, “There are those among you who are expelled or annoyed.” Whoever of you leads the prayers, let him shorten it. Because among them there are weak, old and endangered people. ‘(Bukhari)

5. Preference of elders in Imamate

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also gave priority to the elders in leading the prayers. It has been narrated in the hadith-
Hazrat Abu Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) told us that the one who has the most knowledge of the Book of Allah, the Qur’an Majid and the one who can recite the Qur’an beautifully, will lead the congregation of prayers. If everyone is equal in the matter of beautiful qiraat, then the one who is the forerunner of the hijrah among them will lead. If everyone is equal in the matter of migration, then the elder among them will be the Imam. ‘(Muslim)

. Elderly discount on fasting

Islam has given special benefits to the elderly in fasting. If a very old or elderly person is unable to observe the fast, the old person is exempted from fasting in exchange for feeding the poor one by one in exchange for the daily fast. It has been narrated in the hadith-
Hazrat Ata Rahmatullahi Alaihi said, “I heard Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) recite that it will be very difficult for him (to fast) to give food to the needy one by one instead.” This verse with the provision of feeding a poor person instead of every day (every rosary) of the disabled old man and woman is not abolished. (Bukhari)

. Elderly exemption in performing Hajj

Islam has also given special opportunity to the elderly person who is unable to perform the obligatory Hajj to perform the Hajj. Therefore, it is permissible in Islam to perform Hajj on behalf of a disabled elderly person or a competent person. The issue of showing kindness to the elders has also come up in worship like prayers, fasting and Hajj. It has been narrated in the hadith-
Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said, ‘In the year of the Farewell Hajj, a woman from the Khasam tribe came and said,‘ O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! The Hajj that is obligatory on a servant from Allah is obligatory on my old father when he cannot sit properly on the horse. If I perform Hajj on his behalf, will his Hajj be performed? He said yes. ‘(Bukhari)

. Elderly people also have priority in speaking

Bishwanabi used to give priority to letting the elders speak. Once Hazrat Abdullah Ibn Sahl and Muhayyasa came to Khaybar due to lack of food. When Abdullah was accidentally killed, Muhayyasa proceeded to tell the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) about the incident. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to Muhayyasa, ‘Let the elder speak, let the elder speak. He spoke in support of the US Alliance, but said that maintaining some independence was not the answer.

Not only that, the Prophet himself has given priority to the elders in getting close to the Prophet (peace be upon him). He used to say- ‘Let the elders and wise men among you stand near me. Then those who are close to them will stand in stages, then those who are close to them will stand. ‘(Muslim)

What to do for the elderly
However, in old age, it is the duty of the elders to engage in worship as much as possible. Many older people have an irritable mood. If you concentrate on worship, there is no irritability. Therefore, it is important for the elderly to spend more time in tasbih, tahlil, doa-darood, tawbah-istegfar. Allah the Almighty says-
‘O you who believe! Repent to God with sincere repentance. Hopefully, your Lord will forgive you your sins and admit you to such gardens; On that day, Allah will not disgrace the Prophet (peace be upon him) and those who believe with him. Their light will shine before them and to their right. They will say, ‘O our Lord! Fill our light for us and forgive us; Surely Thou art the Mighty, the Wise ‘(Surah At-Tahrim: 7).

Praying more and more for the elders-

Pronunciation: ‘Allahumma inni aujubika minal jhubni wa aujubika minal bukhli wa aujubika min arjalil umuri wa aujubika min fitnatid duniya wa ajabil kabri. ‘
Meaning: ‘O Allah! I seek refuge in You from cowardice, I seek refuge in You from miserliness, I seek refuge in You from the age of old age, and I seek refuge in You from worldly strife and the punishment of the grave. ‘(Bukhari)

Therefore, it is the duty of all the elders of the Muslim Ummah to inquire about their relatives as much as possible and to pray for them. Just as Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be upon him) came to meet his son Ishmael (peace be upon him) in his old age and built the Kaaba together; Pray for them and for the next generation.

It is also important to take proper care of the elderly to protect their rights and dignity. So everyone should be aware of the rights and dignity of the elders and what should be done towards them.

May Allaah grant everyone the Tawfeeq to get the success and benefits of this world and the Hereafter by giving due respect to the elders and giving them their rights. Give Taoki to make yourself a dweller of Paradise by caring and respecting the elders. Amen.
