If the EC is formed through the search committee, it will remain in disarray: Mostafa

If the EC is formed through the search committee, it will be from Bikart, commented Bangladesh NAP Secretary General M. Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan said the EC should be formed through legislation to make it acceptable to all. If the government forms the EC through a single decision search committee, the question of political legitimacy will remain.
He was speaking in front of the National Press Club on Friday (October 15) at a human chain organized by Bangladesh Janata Oikya to demand repeal of all black laws including section 90B of the Representation of the People Order 1972 and enactment of Election Commission in accordance with Article 116 of the Constitution.
He said the results of the formation of two consecutive search committees by the EC have disappointed the people. Whether the Election Commission is a non-partisan government or not is also very important. Because if the incompetent spineless people are placed in the constitutional position in their behavior, the nation has to fall into a whirlpool of crisis. There is still time to make a law. Because, there is a draft of this law. The draft was prepared by the Election Commission headed by ATM Shamsul Huda.
He further said that the Election Commission should be formed by making a law as stated in the constitution. There is still time to make this law before the new commission is formed. If the government is sincere, it is possible to make laws. Due to the biased behavior of the present and previous election commissions, there has been a crisis of confidence in the electoral system. To restore public confidence, the Election Commission needs to be restructured in a way that is acceptable to all.
He called upon the government to enact legislation for the formation of the Election Commission in accordance with Article 117 of the Constitution.
The president of the organization. Presided over by Arifur Rahman and conducted by Organizing Secretary Ibrahim Khandaker, BLDP Chairman and former Minister M.K. Nazim Uddin Al Azad, Secretary General of the People’s Freedom League Muhammad Ataullah Khan, Gorjo President Syed Moinuzzaman Litu, National League President.
